Nintendo Of America's vice president of sales and marketing, Reggie "kick ass and take names" Fils-Aime has confirmed that Nintendo's new home console, the Revolution, will be launched around the same time as Sony's PS3, which is expected to be released in 2006.

"Our focus is this: we will bring Revolution to the marketplace roughly at the same time as the competition," Fils-Aime told US website IGN. "We are driving our timetables based on what we believe Sony will do."

The 2006 release date was what many expected for the Revolution, although with Microsoft pushing for a 2005 launch date for the Xenon, there was some speculation as to whether or not Nintendo would feel pressured to release its next-generation console a lot earlier than anticipated.

However, Fils-Aime made it clear that this is not Nintendo's intention: "we believe that a rush to a new system is a mistake." This sentiment mirrors that of former Nintendo Europe boss David Gosen, who lashed out at Microsoft at the Elspa Game Summit in June, saying, "in every cycle, some manufacturer not profiting from the current cycle is eager to kick-start the next one." Ouch.

Själv trodde jag att den skulle heta N5 ... Revolution är dock ett rätt konstigt namn på en konsol. Det kanske bara är något "smeknamn" dom har på den?

Ungefär som att Gamecube skulle heta Dolphin.

Men den heter Revolution för att den ska revolutionera sättet man spelar TV-spel på.
